The best offline RPGs for a small screen

July 4, 2026 · Marek Dvořák

Offline RPGs are tricky on a phone. Many are built for long sessions and tiny text, so finding ones that actually work for ten-minute bursts takes some digging.

The winners tend to share a few traits. Battles that pause cleanly, saves that trigger often, and menus that don't need a magnifying glass. Ashvale Chronicle is my current favourite because it nails all three while still giving you real tactical depth.

My advice: don't judge an RPG by its first hour. The good ones open up slowly, and the party systems that feel thin at the start usually become the most interesting part by the mid-game.

Play in airplane mode for a day before you commit. If a game keeps working and keeps you entertained with no bars of signal, it's a keeper.
