Why offline still matters in 2024

Why offline still matters in 2024

April 17, 2026 · Marek Dvořák

It's easy to assume everyone has signal everywhere now. Then you go down into a subway, board a flight, or hit a dead patch on a rural road and your always-online game just stops.

Offline games respect that reality. They store your progress on the device, they load instantly, and they don't interrupt you to reconnect. That reliability is worth more than most flashy features.

There's a battery argument too. Games that aren't constantly talking to a server tend to be kinder to your phone, which matters when you're the one without a charger.

None of this means offline games are simpler. Plenty of the titles we cover are deep and generous. They just trust you to play without a leash.
